Electric ferry for Lake Constance

Business segment: Electric ships

Project details

Emission-free electric ships for passenger transport

The passenger ship for the BSB shipping company is a very challenging shipbuilding order for Ostseestaal. Completely new approaches had to be taken in this project, which involved a parametrically modelled aluminium hull. This was computer-optimised in terms of flow using numerical calculation points. The energy concept will also set new standards in shipbuilding. It uses specially developed control and optimisation software, a special magnetic mooring system and, for the first time, bifacial solar modules that can generate energy on the front and rear.
The capacity of 300 passengers exceeds all previous electric ferries and passenger ships designed and realised by Ostseestaal. BSB has secured an option for a second ship until the end of 2022.
