Ostseestaal supplies aluminium superstructure section for megayacht
Expertise from Stralsund in demand in international shipbuilding

Stralsund, July 2022 - On Tuesday, 12 July 2022, the shell of a 13.5-tonne deck superstructure was shipped from the Ostseestaal GmbH & Co. KG at the former Volkswerft shipyard. The superstructure, made entirely of aluminium, was loaded onto the multi-purpose vessel „Maureen S“ with the help of two cranes. The ship section will be delivered to a Dutch shipyard. The 28 metre long and 9 metre wide superstructure was the largest single component to leave the halls at Ostseestaal in Stralsund to date.

„With the production of the deckhouse for this mega yacht, Ostseestaal is once again demonstrating its expertise in the manufacture of special constructions for international shipbuilding,“ emphasises Michael Schultze, Business Unit Manager at Ostseestaal. „Welding aluminium and other high-quality materials in particular requires very specific know-how and many years of experience.“ Traditionally, Ostseestaal supplies the shipbuilding industry with three-dimensionally cold-formed steel sheets. Ostseestaal has long been the technology leader in 3D cold forming. The process makes it possible to fulfil highly individual and special customer requirements. With the growing trend towards the construction of specialised ships in international shipbuilding, Ostseestaal has been able to further consolidate its leading position in this market.

The Stralsund-based specialist company has also been active as a shipbuilder for a number of years. To date, twelve electric solar-powered ships have been built for various applications in professional inland navigation. Three new electric solar ferries are currently in production. Thanks to the high diversity of its product range, Ostseestaal is also continuously securing orders from suppliers to the aircraft industry, the wind energy sector and the tank industry, as well as for architectural projects. Since 2021, the company has also been designing and manufacturing outer skin flaps for megayachts.
