Development of a high-performance mould for thermoplastic fuselage structures
In this project, we developed an innovative moulding technology that made large-scale production of thermoplastic fuselage structures significantly more efficient. To achieve this, we implemented two key approaches: a mould for autoclave consolidation with automated material application, precise assembly and optimised handling – and another mould designed for processes outside the autoclave, such as in-situ consolidation, with integrated heating and cooling functions.
The processing of thermoplastics at temperatures of up to 400 °C placed high demands on materials, seals and cable systems. At the same time, it enabled shorter cycle times, lower energy consumption and thus improved cost-effectiveness.
The RFA launch pad is the first for vertical orbital rocket launches in the UK and Europe. The commercial spaceport on the Shetland Islands offers ideal conditions for launching payloads into polar and sun-synchronous orbits with high launch frequency. The decisive factors in the collaboration with Ostseestaal were the efficient logistics on site, the rapid project implementation and the reliable, solution-oriented approach. For these reasons, RFA chose Ostseestaal as its central supply partner in the construction of the spaceport.
