Ostseestaal supplies superstructure section made of aluminum for mega yacht
Know-how from Stralsund in demand in the international shipbuilding industry

Stralsund, July 2022 - On Tuesday, July 12, 2022, the shell of a 13.5-ton deck superstructure was shipped from Ostseestaal GmbH & Co. KG on the former Volkswerft site. The superstructure, made entirely of aluminum, was loaded onto the multi-purpose vessel "Maureen S" with the help of two cranes. The ship section will be delivered to a Dutch shipyard. The 28-meter long and 9-meter wide superstructure was the largest single component to leave the halls at Ostseestaal in Stralsund to date.

"With the production of the deckhouse for this mega yacht, Ostseestaal is once again demonstrating its expertise in the manufacture of special structures for international shipbuilding," emphasizes Michael Schultze, Business Unit Manager at Ostseestaal. "Welding aluminum and other high-quality materials in particular requires very specialized know-how and many years of experience." Traditionally, Ostseestaal supplies the shipyard industry with three-dimensional cold-formed steel sheets. In 3D cold forming, Ostseestaal has long been the technology leader. The process makes it possible to meet very individual and special customer requirements. With the growing trend towards the construction of special ships in international shipbuilding, Ostseestaal has been able to further consolidate its leading position in this market.

For several years, the Stralsund-based specialist company has also been active as a shipbuilder itself. So far, twelve electric solar ships have been built for various applications in professional inland navigation. Currently, three new electric solar ferries are in production. Through a high diversity in the product range, Ostseestaal also continuously secures orders from suppliers to the aircraft industry, the wind energy sector and tank industry, as well as for architectural projects. Since 2021, the company has also been designing and manufacturing shell flaps for mega yachts.
